Community Heath Education
The greatest medicine of all is to teach people how not to need it.
Children in underdeveloped countries have much higher rates of death before they reach 5 years old, often from preventable diseases and injury. Proper hygiene and basic first aid skills could combat a large portion of these unnecessary fatalities. Together with our partners we are creating a Community Heath Education program in which Haitian individuals are chosen as medical leaders and trained in disease prevention and basic curative care. They are then sent into their communities to help care for their neighbors. They will also have resources to refer to and ability to contact local clinics when needed.
This program is in its infancy and will need funding to allow healthcare professionals to distribute education materials (ie. CPR dummies) and medical equipment such as blood pressure cuffs and basic medical tools for use in the community. The chosen individuals will need to attend training sessions supplied by medical staff to become educated to care for others in their community. This project is vital in creating a massive outreach to help the people on a larger scale.
Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself. There is no other commandment greater than this.
